For Parents & Families

Linda provides expert guidance throughout the educational process, enabling parents to advocate effectively on behalf of their children.

Evaluation

Assistance in requesting (statutorily aligned) evaluations, interpreting assessment results, and understanding how those findings shape subsequent educational decisions, some of which could be life-changing for the student.

Ensuring that individualized education programs and Section 504 accommodations accurately reflect the student’s strengths, needs, long-term objectives, and how each can be fulfilled.

Preparation and strategic support enabling parents or caregivers to participate with assurance and clarity in school-based meetings.

Development of positive, evidence-informed strategies tailored to the individual student’s requirements within the classroom setting, regardless of venue.

Facilitation of seamless transitions at every critical juncture of a student’s educational journey.

Linda Taylor’s experience in resolution of maximized benefit for all stakeholders, with the priority being students and their best outcomes:

  • Attend all relevant school board meetings.
  • IEP/504 plans follow the student:
    • Level of service (LRE, or Least Restrictive Environment, per statutes) cannot change without a formal IEP meeting.
    • Update Present Levels of Performance now—document all accommodations/supports (even informal ones “just being done” because the team knows your child needs them).
  • Request transportation (and aide/nurse if applicable) if the new location creates barriers.
  • Ask about sibling placement options to keep children together.
  • Tour the new school and meet key staff (principal, nurse, office staff, cafeteria, specials teachers, etc.).
  • Identify your main contact person at the new site.
  • Submit all requests in writing (email or letter) and retain and archive copies.

Linda Taylor’s experience in resolution of maximized benefit for all stakeholders, with the priority being students and their best outcomes:

  • Involve all stakeholders in discussions and meetings: certified staff, support personnel, administrators, parents, business partners, and community members.
  • Form an inclusive closure committee that includes community representatives.
  • Engage key departments early (e.g., special education, transportation, facilities).
  • Major considerations:
    • Cost savings vs. expenses
    • Age/condition of buildings
    • Increased travel distance for families
    • Capacity and space at receiving schools
    • Demographic trends (in-migration/out-migration areas)
    • Specialized programs: Can they be relocated intact? Will staff move with them?
